Problem:
What sort of license manager utilities does RLM have? How can I easily control RLM on my network?
Solution:
On all platforms RLM includes two methods for controlling a network or site license.
RLM includes a web server through which you can administer your license server from any platform in your network (on Mac/Linux you need to open the web servers port in order to access it from any other machine on your network). To access the web server from any machine on your network type the following into the address bar of your web browser replacing localhost with the name of the machine that hosts RLM:
http://localhost:5054
The RLM installation on your host machine also includes the rlmutil executable which provides license manager utilities through the command line. (See pages 16 and following of the RLM Users Guide rlm_install.pdf.) To run rlmutil follow these platform-specific instructions:
Windows Platforms: Use the command line to navigate to the RLM installation folder. Once in the installation folder type rlmutil into the command window (without the quotation marks) and press Enter/Return.
Linux/Mac Platforms: Use the terminal window to navigate to the RLM installation folder and run rlmutil from a system startup script (by typing ./rlmutil into the terminal window without quotation marks and pressing Enter/Return). After you have done this the rlmutil executable will display additional instructions for using the rlmutil commands (including rlmremove) in the terminal/command window.
The rlmutil executable includes the following utilities for managing a network or site license:
rlmdialog: Diagnoses license checkout problems.
rlmdown: Gracefully shuts down selected license deamons (both teclmd and all vendor daemons) on the license server machine.
rlmhostid: Reports the hostid of a system
rlmnewlog: Moves existing report log information to a new file name and starts a new report log fie with the existing name.
rlmpath: Allows users direct control over license file path settings.
rlmremove: Releases a hung license to a pool of free licenses.
rlmreread: Causes the license deamon to reread the license file and start any new vendor daemons.
rlmstat: Displays the status of a license server system.
rlmswitch: Controls debug log location and size.
rlmswitchr: Switches the report log to a new file name.
rlmver: Reports the Flexnet licensing version of a library or binary file.
